All Creation Sings

Bless the Lord, O my soul!IMG_1687
O Lord my God, you are very great!
You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
    covering yourself with light as with a garment,
stretching out the heavens like a tent.
He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters;
he makes the clouds his chariot;
he rides on the wings of the wind;
he makes his messengers winds,
his ministers a flaming fire.

He set the earth on its foundations
so that it should never be moved.
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
the waters stood above the mountains.
At your rebuke they fled;
at the sound of your thunder they took to flight.
The mountains rose, the valleys sank down
to the place that you appointed for them.
You set a boundary that they may not pass,
so that they might not again cover the earth.  Psalm 104:1-9

As I read this passage this morning, I was convicted of how little I actually look around at creation and praise God for what He has made. It is good to meditate on creation in order to see the love and grace of the Creator. We tend to forget that the world is so much bigger than the tiny universe that we have created for ourselves. God is so big, so vast, so immense, that nothing can contain Him.

After reading this passage and heading out to a meeting this morning I decided to just look around at the creation when I got to a stoplight. Right in front of me was this awesome rainbow. I know it sounds cheesy and too coincidental that I saw a rainbow after I had just read about them. But, that is what happened. So I just received it for what it was, a gift of grace. You see, the rainbow is a sign of God’s promise to His people. It is God’s promise that He will never destroy the earth again with water, but even more than that, the rainbow is God’ promise that He will keep His Covenant of grace with His people.

The rainbow is a physical reminder of what God has done for us. That God has seen our sin and rebellion and chosen to rescue us from ourselves. It is a reminder that God sent His Son, Jesus, to bear the wrath that we deserved to have poured out on us. It reminds us that our sin has been forgiven, that we have been made new and beautiful creations in Christ. The rainbow is a reminder of God’s unfailing and unwavering steadfast love toward His children.

Be encouraged today by what God has made, be encouraged today by how God has dealt with you with His grace. Look around and see His beauty and worship Him.

All for Jesus,

Fletch
