Do you ever get up in the morning and you just don’t feel like getting out of bed. There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong. Your circumstances are actually pretty good or maybe they aren’t that good. But you just feel blah, with no desire to get moving.
Lately, I’ve felt that way. I’m not sure why because everything is going pretty well. But it’s just been super hard to get motivated.
One way to deal with the “blahs” is to just say to yourself, “Just push through this. Just get out of bed, get started on your day and suck it up. Maybe I’ll get lucky and there will be some pithy quote on my facebook feed to inspire me.” But there is not much hope in thinking that way. Just “pushing through” is empty of any real value to help you. There is a better way.
I’ve found reading Scripture is my best hope. Scripture reveals God’s actual words to us. Think about that for a moment. God is speaking to you through the written word. Our feelings of blah or even despair are very real, but the words that God wants us to hear from His heart are very real as well. Listen to Psalm 136:1
“Give thanks to the Lord, for his is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”
There is a healing balm in these words. There is genuine hope in these words. God is telling us that He is good. So whatever negative thoughts you might have of who God is can be washed away. He is good. But the verse goes on to say that His steadfast love endures forever. Who is the affection of God’s love? You are! God is good and He loves you with an eternal, enduring, steadfast love. This means He loves you through your sin, He loves you through our blahness, He loves you through your despair. God is for you today and He has more love for you than you could ever imagine. We know this to be true because He sent His Son Jesus, to come and die for us, to be raised from the dead and to sit on His throne to rule over all things.
This love is what should get you (and me) out of bed in the morning. Do you see the difference between pushing through and relying on yourself and believing that it’s the love of God expressed in His gift of Jesus that should get us moving? It the difference of relying on yourself and relying on God and His grace. I know myself, and I know that I can’t move forward on my own. I have to rely on God by putting my faith in Jesus to walk through the day with me.
God wants to speak words of encouragement to you today, take a few minutes to pull out your Bible and listen.
All for Jesus,
