Two Critical Things a Christian must do

The famous football coach Vince Lombardi blockandtacklebelieved that if his team could learn two things they would win football games. Just two things were the key to winning games? What about a thick and complex playbook? Don’t you need the fastest running backs and the most agile quarterbacks? Well, according to Vince Lombardi all you need to learn and execute are two things: blocking and tackling. If he could get his players to do those two things better than anyone else then they would win football games.

The Christian life points us in this direction as well. Not that we need to learn how to block and tackle, but there are two basic skills that are so foundational to life that we will be at a great loss if we don’t learn them. There are two things that if you do them every day, will have the greatest impact on your life. What could possibly impact my life the most? Studying your Bible and praying.

I know, they sound so basic don’t they? Kind of like how basic blocking and tackling sound too basic to be the keys to one of the greatest football coaches of all time. But it’s true, studying the Scriptures and getting connected to God through prayer are fundamental to your existence. They are life-sustaining to us because they feed us the spiritual nourishment that we need to eat every day.

The Bible will give you all the answers to all the questions you have in life. Yes, I said ALL. The Bible is comprehensive when it comes to giving us guidance on ALL matters of faith and life. When it comes down to it, you really only need one book, your Bible.

Prayer is your life-line to God. Just think about that for a moment. The God of the universe, the God who created the entire universe, is willing and waiting to speak with you today. Actually, He wants to speak with you all day, every moment of every day. He wants to hear about everything that is going on in your life. He wants you to pour out your heart, He wants to hear your burdens, your joys, your struggles, your hopes and dreams. He wants to speak with you. He wants to tell you His hopes and dreams for you. And most of all, He wants to tell you how much you are loved, no matter what you do.

Grab your Bible, find a quiet place and start to see how awesome God is, how awesome He thinks you are, and find out where He wants to take your life today.

All for Jesus,

Fletch
